Battles continue between Armenia and Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh region

Yerevan, Baku, SANA-The battles and exchange of bombing between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces continued today within the conflict in the Karabakh region, as the Armenian army bombed the city of Ganja, the second largest city in Azerbaijan, while today new strikes targeted Stepanakert, the largest city in the region.

The AFP quoted the local foreign ministry in the Nagorno-Karabakh region as saying … that the Azerbaijani forces bombed the city of Stepanakert with shells this morning, which caused heavy material damage, while the Azerbaijani Ministry of Defense announced that the Armenian forces fired shells at the towns of Tartar and Horadiz in the Fuzuli region.

On the other hand, the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said in a tweet on Sunday… that “Ganja, the second largest city in Azerbaijan, was bombed by Armenian forces,” while the authorities in Karabakh region indicated that they targeted a military airport in the city.

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry stated that the Armenian bombing of Tartar, Beylagan and Ganja claimed the lives of 22 civilians and wounded 74 others.

As the mutual bombing continues, the battles continue in the region, as Press Secretary of the Ministry of Defense Shushan Stepanyan published video footage of the destruction of armored vehicles of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces and one of its units retreating during the fight in Karabakh, while Azerbaijan announced the progress of its forces in a number of regions.

The situation in the Nagorno-Karabakh region has witnessed a sudden military escalation since last Sunday, at a time when the Armenian and Azerbaijani sides exchanged accusations about the reasons for that escalation.
