Annual conference of Journalists Union calls for amending Union’s law in accordance with Media law

Damascus, SANA –  Participants in the annual conference of the Journalists Union called for amending the Union’s law in accordance with the Media law issued in 2011 and reconsidering the closure of  newspapers in some  provinces, in addition to adopting training and rehabilitating strategy and increasing the age of retirement to the Journalists.

They called, during the conference that took place in al-Wehda establishment for printing and publishing, to find mechanisms to address the foreign public opinion and specify some programs to the people outside Syria to explain the reality of events in the country.

For his part, Member of the regional leadership of al-Baath Arab Socialist Party, Dr. Khalaf al-Muftah,  stressed the impotence of finding a new vision of  future of journalism that is able to overcome the obstacles facing journalism in all fields.

He pointed out to the important role of media in confronting the conspiracy to which the country is exposed.

In turn, Information Minister Omran al-Zoubi  stressed Syria’s media outlets have developed and overcome large technical problems to cover all events, particularly through keeping up with procedures of presidential elections in 49 countries around the world.

He added that audio, visual and printed media had challenged the crisis conditions and sanctions imposed on them.

The Minister pointed out that Syrian media is keen to view all points of view on their difference, adding that the Ministry is offering support to the private media within the available capabilities, explaining that suspending some newspapers in some provinces is due to the shortage of financial resources and the sanctions imposed on the country.
