Economy Minister: New economic plans in which the people participate with decision-maker

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Economy and Industry, Nidal al-Shaar said in a meeting with SANA agency that Syrian economy faces major challenges today, as a result of the policies of the former regime, which resulted in the systematic destruction of all sectors and infrastructure.

The Minister affirmed that the Syrian economy during the era of the former regime was haphazard and lacked a clear identity, which poses major challenges not only to the current government, but also to the people therefore, realistic economic plans have begun to be developed, in which the people participate with decision-makers.

He went on to say, a new Syrian economy cannot be built in the presence of unjust and unfair sanctions that were imposed primarily on the former regime, pointing out that the European Union countries and the United States of America understand the new reality after the fall of that regime, and that the government is receiving positive signals in this regard.

Al-Shaar welcomed the recent reduction of a number of sanctions imposed on Syria, which could indicate that it is beginning to return to its position in the international community.

Minister al-Shaar articulated that if the sanctions are lifted, especially if Syria is returned to the global banking system (SWIFT) the Syrian economy will witness a qualitative leap and an influx of funds and investments into Syria.
