Damascus, SANA- UN Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen, confirmed that announcing the formation of a comprehensive Syrian government next March may help lift sanctions on Syria.

“Creating an inclusive government in Syria in the coming weeks will help determine whether Western sanctions will be lifted as the country rebuilds after the ouster of former President Bashar al-Assad,” Pedersen said in an interview with the Associated Press on Thursday adding “Having a new inclusive government on March 1 will help us lift the sanctions that Western countries imposed on Syria during Assad’s rule.”

Pedersen went on to say: “During his first meeting with the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Ahmad al-Sharaa last December he insisted that the interim government would remain for only three months, although he informed him that the timetable was tight.”

Regarding the incursion of the Israeli occupation forces into Syrian territory since the fall of the former regime in violation of the ceasefire agreement concluded in 1974 with Syria, which the occupation claimed would be temporary, Pedersen said: “In my opinion, there is really no excuse for the“Israelis” to remain, and the solution is very simple… they must withdraw.”
