Damascus, Aug. 19 (SANA) Syrian Education Minister Mohammad Abdulrahman Turko welcomed President Ahmad al-Sharaa’s Decree No. 163 of 2026, granting students from Sweida Governorate an exceptional examination session for certificate exams.
Turko said the decree, issued on Wednesday, reflects concern for students’ futures and places their interests and right to education and examinations among the ministry’s priorities.
The decree grants students from Sweida an exceptional session to sit for the Basic Education Certificate examinations and all branches of the General Secondary Education Certificate examinations, under the same rules and conditions applied to regular examinations.
It covers students who did not sit for the 2026 examination session, as well as those who were unable to complete all required examination subjects.
The minister said the measure provides students whose circumstances prevented them from completing their examinations with a fair new opportunity to continue their educational path.
The Ministry of Education has begun issuing the executive instructions necessary to implement the decree, including the procedures, dates and mechanisms required to enable eligible students to benefit from the exceptional session.
Turko affirmed that the ministry will work to ensure proper implementation of the decree and provide suitable conditions for students to complete their examinations, stressing that protecting students’ futures and preserving their right to continue their education contribute to building Syria’s future.
In Sweida, Governor Mustafa al-Bakour also welcomed the exceptional examination session, saying it would give students another opportunity to continue their education despite ongoing challenges.
He called for coordinated efforts to ensure the exams are held successfully and students can sit for them without obstacles, stressing that their right to take the exams must be protected.
