Hasakah, June 23 (SANA) Emergency teams from the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management responded to widespread fires across Hasakah province on Tuesday, including blazes that spread from fires in Iraq and have scorched grasslands, crop residues, and wheat and barley fields in the Tell Brak, Tell Hamis and Al-Yaarubiyah sub-districts, the ministry said.
Teams have managed to bring several fire fronts under control and are working to contain others to prevent them from spreading to villages and civilian homes, according to a statement on Telegram.
Additional firefighting teams were dispatched from Raqqa and Deir Ezzor provinces to reinforce units operating in Hasakah. Teams are facing significant challenges due to strong winds, the contiguity of agricultural lands, the widespread presence of dry thorns and grass across large areas, and the existence of landmines in some locations, the ministry said.
Separately, Syrian Civil Defense teams in Aleppo extinguished a fire that broke out in wheat fields and harvested land near the village of Miznaz, west of the province, on Tuesday, with the participation of local residents, Aleppo Operations Commander Faisal Muhammad Ali told SANA. Damage was limited to material losses with no casualties reported.
On Thursday, Hasakah’s emergency directorate responded to 12 fires affecting wheat, barley, harvested land and dry vegetation across various parts of the province, bringing them under control and preventing further spread.
The Civil Defense called on citizens to follow fire prevention measures, avoid igniting fires in agricultural or forest areas, refrain from discarding cigarette butts or glass containers near crops, and avoid burning dry grass, removing it only through safe methods.
