Syrian American Council expresses support for Barrack’s dual envoy appointments

Washington, June 5 (SANA) The Syrian American Council on Friday welcomed the appointment of Tom Barrack as U.S. Special Presidential Envoy to Syria and Iraq, in addition to his duties as U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye, expressing appreciation for his recent work on the Syrian file.

In a post on its official “X” account, the Council said that Barrack, who has served as U.S. Ambassador to Turkey and as Special Envoy to Syria since May 2025, has overseen efforts related to easing sanctions, reconstruction initiatives, and coordination in the fight against ISIS during what it described as a pivotal phase of Syria’s transition process.

The Council expressed appreciation for Barrack’s continued commitment to supporting Syria, highlighting the importance of his expanded role in the upcoming phase. It also said it looks forward to continued cooperation with Barrack and the U.S. administration as Syria enters what it described as a new and crucial phase in its history.

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on May 31 that Barrack would continue serving as ambassador to Türkiye while also assuming the role of Special Presidential Envoy to Syria and Iraq, noting that he would carry out his new duties with the full support of the U.S. State Department.

Barrack was appointed U.S. Ambassador to Türkiye in April 2025 and was later assigned as Special Envoy to Syria on May 23 of the same year.
