Damascus, June 2 (SANA) One person was killed and seven others injured in 139 fires and traffic accidents reported across Syria on Monday, to which Syrian Civil Defense teams from the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management responded.
The Civil Defense said in a statement posted on its Telegram channel on Tuesday that its teams responded to nine traffic accidents, resulting in one death and seven injuries.
First aid was provided to the injured before they were transferred to hospitals for further treatment. Teams also cleared accident sites and secured the affected areas.
The Civil Defense urged drivers to reduce speed, ensure their vehicles are in good technical condition, check brakes and windshield wipers, and avoid distractions while driving, particularly the use of mobile phones.
The agency also responded to 130 fires, including 25 in fields and agricultural crops and 105 incidents involving homes, shops, dry grass, trees, garbage and electrical wires.
Firefighters extinguished the blazes and secured the sites without recording any injuries, with damage limited to material losses.
The Civil Defense stressed the importance of avoiding open fires in forests and agricultural areas, refraining from throwing cigarette butts or glass bottles along roadsides, particularly near crops and woodland, and avoiding the burning of dry vegetation around homes or along roads. It called for such materials to be removed using safe methods.
On Sunday, two people were killed and 26 others injured in 113 fires and traffic accidents across various parts of Syria, according to the Civil Defense.
