Damascus, May 24 (SANA) Syrian student Ibrahim Fustuq, a member of the national informatics team, won the bronze medal at the Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad (APIO 2026), according to the Distinction and Creativity Agency (DCA).
The DCA said the competition was hosted by Taiwan and held remotely from May 9 to 10, with participation from 37 countries and regions.
It added that 37 Syrian students took part in the competition, taking the exams through the Syrian Virtual University Center. The contest focused on programming, algorithms and problem-solving skills.
The agency said the achievement reflected ongoing efforts to support young talent through training programs aimed at strengthening Syria’s participation in international scientific competitions.
On Saturday, the DCA also said Syria’s national informatics team won five medals, including one gold, during its first participation in the 2nd North African Olympiad in Informatics (NAOI 2026), held in Libya on April 18 with teams from nine countries across Asia and Africa.
