Damascus, May 9 (SANA) Spokesperson of the Syrian Higher Committee for People’s Assembly Elections, Nawar Najma, said that the recent unrest inHasakah Governorate is an accidental incident that will not affect the progress of the electoral process in the province.
Najma added that a decision has been issued two days ago to form subcommittees and an appeal committee at the level of Hasakah region, as well as in Ain al-Arab area in Aleppo Governorate.
In a statement to SANA on Saturday, he noted that the deadline for submitting appeals against the membership of subcommittees ends today.
The subcommittees will then immediately begin their work in selecting members of the electoral bodies for the three regions in Hasakah, as well as Ain al-Arab in Aleppo Governorate, under the direct supervision of the Higher Committee for People’s Assembly Elections.
He stressed that the success of the electoral process would contribute to strengthening political, administrative, and security integration in the governorate, in addition to implementing the provisions of the January 29 agreement.
Najma also stated that the delay in convening the People’s Assembly is due to the desire to hold elections in both Raqqa and Hasakah governorates, which would enhance the credibility and representative nature of the Assembly and grant its legislative decisions greater legitimacy.
