Tunis, May 9 (SANA) Syria participated in the 38th General Conference of the Arab Atomic Energy Agency meeting in Tunisia on Friday with a delegation led by Syrian Atomic Energy Commission Director General Modar al-Okla and Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs Hani Zeidan.
During the opening session, al-Okla was elected vice president of the conference.
Speaking at the session, Zeidan reaffirmed Syria’s commitment to Arab cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
He said Syria is focusing on developing scientific research and national expertise in nuclear medicine, medical physics, radio pharmacy and nuclear engineering to support development efforts.

Zeidan also stressed the need to expand cooperation with regional and international institutions, particularly the International Atomic Energy Agency, to advance peaceful nuclear applications in healthcare services.
