Damascus, May 1 (SANA) Turkish Airlines and Qatar Airways resumed flights to Damascus International Airport on Friday, raising the number of airlines operating to and from Damascus and Aleppo airports to 12, the Syrian General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport said, marking a significant milestone in the recovery of the country’s aviation sector.

Omar Hosari, head of the Authority, said in a post on X that as of May 1, a total of 12 airlines are now operating to and from Damascus and Aleppo International Airports.

He added that Syrian airports and airspace are gradually welcoming back carriers as part of ongoing efforts to revitalize the civil aviation sector and improve air connectivity.

The airlines resuming services include Syrian Airlines, flydubai, FlyCham, Royal Jordanian, Dan Air, Air Arabia, flynas, Qatar Airways, Turkish Airlines, Jazeera Airways, and AJet. Flights have also resumed at Aleppo International Airport.

Hosari emphasized efforts to restore routes to Europe, highlighting close collaboration with international aviation safety organizations to ensure compliance with safety standards. He said the development is aimed at strengthening operational readiness and supporting the future expansion of air services.

The Authority announced on April 8 that operations at Damascus International Airport had resumed regularly and that all air corridors previously closed on February 28 due to the outbreak of conflict had been reopened.
