Damascus, April 26 (SANA) The first public hearing in the trial of Atef Najib, a figure of the defunct regime accused of crimes against the Syrian people, was held Sunday at the Justice Palace in Damascus, in the presence of Public Prosecutor Hassan al-Turba.
Abdul Basit Abdul Latif, head of the National Transitional Justice Authority, described the session as a long-awaited step toward justice.



In a post on X on Sunday, he said: “From Daraa, where the initial spark began, to the courtroom today, accountability is advancing in practice and the doors of truth are opening… There is no impunity, and justice continues.”
The hearing, held at the justice Palace in Damascus, marks the start of public trials involving senior figures of the deposed regime, as legal proceedings move forward against Najib, who is involved in committing crimes and violations against Syrians
