Hasakah, Apr. 11 (SANA) A new batch of detainees has been released in Hasakah on Saturday, as part of the execution of the agreement reached between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
The releases took place in the al-Milbiya area in the Hasakah countryside and included individuals detained by the SDF, as well as former SDF members detained during government law enforcement operations, according to the presidential team tasked with monitoring implementation of the January 29 accord between Damascus and the SDF.
Presidential envoy General Ziad al-Ayesh stated that a new group of detainees had been released today, bringing the total number of those freed to around 1,500, with only a small number remaining in custody ahead of completely resolving this humanitarian file.
Al-Ayesh said the step comes in fulfilment of the January 29 agreement and reflects direct support and follow-up from President Ahmad al-Sharaa, who regards the issue primarily as a humanitarian matter rather than a negotiating file.
He added that the Ministry of Interior will assume full management of SDF-run detention facilities, while the Ministry of Justice will begin reviewing the cases of detainees accused of criminal offenses, in line with legal procedures.
Regarding missing persons, al-Ayesh said that efforts are ongoing in coordination with relevant authorities to uncover their fate in SDF-run prisons.
Previously, on March 19, a similar batch of detainees had been released in Qamishli and Hasakah.
The Syrian government had announced on January 29 a comprehensive agreement with the SDF, including a ceasefire, a gradual integration of military and administrative structures, and the return of state institutions and border crossings to government control.
