Damascus, April 7 (SANA) – Syria’s Atomic Energy Commission organized a specialized training course on radiation emergency response, targeting emergency physicians and healthcare personnel to strengthen preparedness and ensure rapid and effective intervention in case of radiological incidents.
According to a statement posted on the commission’s Telegram channel Tuesday, the training focused on the basics of ionizing radiation and radiation exposure, types and classifications of radiological incidents, methods for providing medical assistance to affected individuals, and procedures to mitigate the health effects of radiation exposure.
The commission said the course forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance national capabilities in radiation safety and security and ensure the provision of safe and specialized healthcare in emergency situations.
Established in 1976, the Syrian Atomic Energy Commission is the government body responsible for regulating atomic energy affairs and its peaceful applications in Syria, including setting the frameworks governing such uses.
The commission also works to integrate nuclear sciences into education in Syria as part of broader efforts to support economic reconstruction, improve scientific and research services, and build a qualified workforce while promoting a strong culture of nuclear and radiation safety aligned with international standards.
