Damascus, April 7 (SANA) – Syria’s Planning and Statistics Authority and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) signed a memorandum of understanding to conduct a rapid assessment of children’s needs in the country.
The agreement was signed by the head of the Planning and Statistics Authority, Anas Salim, and UNICEF’s Representative in Syria, Mericel Relano Arana.
According to the authority, the assessment aims to strengthen national evidence systems that support programs and advocacy related to children, while identifying and prioritizing the immediate, medium- and long-term needs of children and families in Syria.
The initiative forms part of the country programme framework agreed between Syria and UNICEF, which seeks to enhance data production and evidence-based analysis to support comprehensive and child-focused programming.
The authority noted that the assessment will rely on multi-dimensional analyses and field evaluations focusing on the conditions of children and families across Syria.
Last September, the Planning and Statistics Authority signed another memorandum of understanding with UNICEF to implement the Multiple Indicator Cluster Surveys (MICS) program in Syria for the period 2025–2026.
