Damascus, April 4 (SANA) The Syrian Civil Defense, operating under the ministry of emergency and disasters management, has removed more than 29,000 unexploded ordnance remnants of war, including over 24,000 cluster munitions, since the beginning of its work in this field, as part of ongoing efforts to address the persistent threat these remnants pose to civilian lives and to support the restoration of stability in the affected areas.
in a statement published via its telegram channel, the Civil Defense said that remnants of war represent one of the most serious long-term threats in Syria, posing continuous danger to residents, directly impacting social stability, disrupting education and agricultural activities, and exposing children in particular to heightened risk.
the Civil Defense continues field survey and clearance operations, alongside awareness campaigns aimed at informing civilians about the dangers of unexploded ordnance and safe handling practices, contributing to reducing incidents.
April 4 marks the international day for mine awareness, established by the United Nations to highlight the dangers of mines and explosive remnants of war and to strengthen international efforts toward their removal and the protection of civilians, especially in conflict-affected countries.
