Idlib, Apr. 3 (SANA) Three children were killed and two others injured on Friday when a landmine left behind by the deposed regime exploded inside an abandoned school in the town of al-Habit in the southern Idlib countryside.
Ziad Harkoush, Director of Emergency and Disaster Management in Idlib, said that ambulance teams responded immediately to the incident, and the injured were transported to nearby medical centers, but three children succumbed to their injuries.
A source in the Hama Health Directorate indicated that one of the two children taken to al-Suqaylabiyah Hospital died upon arrival, while the other is receiving treatment before being transferred to Hama National Hospital.
Authorities urged residents to educate their children about the dangers of landmines and remnants of war, and to avoid approaching contaminated areas until specialized teams complete removal operations.
Landmines and remnants of war left behind by the ousted regime continue to pose a threat to civilians in several areas of Syria, causing fatal accidents and serious injuries, and hindering agricultural and economic activities as well as the return of residents to their homes.
