Kuala Lumpur, March 30 (SANA) – The Syrian community in Malaysia organized a central celebration in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday marking the 15th anniversary of the Syrian revolution and Eid al-Fitr, drawing more than 1,200 participants from the Syrian community alongside Arab and Malaysian guests.

The event reflected aspects of Syrian cultural identity through a diverse program that included traditional outdoor games, Syrian cuisine prepared by community members, and activities supported by Syrian-owned businesses and restaurants.

The celebration also featured entertainment programs for children, gift distributions, and performances by the “Ahbab al-Sham” group, along with songs associated with the Syrian revolution. Syrian mothers were also honored during the event, including those who have memorized the entire Quran.

Omar Ahmad Zain al-Abidin, a founding member of the Syrian community in Malaysia and supervisor of community programs, said in a statement to SANA that the community seeks to strengthen national identity among Syrians abroad through initiatives targeting different groups and aimed at building a cohesive community.

He noted that the month of Ramadan represented an important period for community activities, including collective iftar gatherings and events marking the 27th night of Ramadan, which helped strengthen ties among members of the Syrian community.

For his part, Dr. Mohammad Abu Zeid, head of the Syrian community in Malaysia, said the celebration carried a message combining joy and hope while reaffirming commitment to Syrian national identity.

Engineer Nour al-Din al-Doumani, a Syrian from Quneitra who has lived in Malaysia since 2017, said such events help strengthen social bonds among Syrians abroad and reduce the sense of distance from their homeland.

The event is part of a series of activities organized by the Syrian community in Malaysia during Ramadan aimed at strengthening cultural and social engagement within the community.
