Damascus, March 19 (SANA) Syrians marked Wednesday the 15th anniversary of the Revolution in a nationwide scene that brought together remembrance of sacrifices and celebrations of victory across multiple governorates.
Crowds gathered in public squares to mark the occasion, widely seen as a pivotal turning point in the country’s history and its political and social trajectory.
This year’s anniversary took on a distinct character, with celebrations reflecting what was described as victory following the Dec. 8, 2024 liberation, which ended a prolonged period of suffering for Syrians under the deposed regime.
The Memory of the Revolution… and the Path to Liberation
Fifteen years ago, Syrians took to the streets in peaceful demonstrations demanding freedom, justice and an end to corruption, raising slogans affirming their right to dignity and democracy.
Despite the violence and heavy sacrifices that followed, Syrians maintained their demands for legitimate rights, as the uprising evolved into a long national path that culminated in liberation and the restoration of national decision-making.
Widespread Celebrations and Feelings of Pride
Across Syrian cities, large public events reflected pride in what participants described as achievements realized through resilience and sacrifice. Many emphasized that the outcome was the result of steadfastness and the sacrifices of martyrs who paved the way toward freedom.
Celebrations carried strong symbolic elements, with participants recalling early scenes of the uprising, raising photos of martyrs and displaying banners reaffirming commitment to its principles.
The memory of the martyrs remained central to the anniversary. Participants said their sacrifices sustained the spirit of the revolution across generations, as commemorative events and visits to cemeteries were held in several cities.
Speakers and participants stressed that the path toward freedom that began 15 years ago continues, linking remembrance with ongoing national efforts.
A Call for Construction and Reconstruction
On the occasion, calls were made to intensify efforts toward reconstruction, with participants describing the post-liberation phase as requiring unified national engagement to rebuild the country.
They said the anniversary is not only a moment of remembrance but also an open call for Syrians to contribute to shaping a future worthy of those sacrifices.
Towards a New Future
Syria marks the anniversary looking toward a new phase defined by stability, justice and development, grounded in the people’s resilience and their ability to endure and achieve change despite challenges.
