Damascus, March 19 (SANA) Syria welcomed the announcement of a ceasefire between Pakistan and Afghanistan on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr, considering the step an important entry point for reducing tensions and preparing the conditions necessary for dialogue, in a way that supports security and stability in the region.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates commended, in a statement issued on Wednesday, the sincere efforts made by Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye in reaching the agreement, affirming that regional diplomatic coordination remains a key factor in supporting peace efforts and resolving disputes through political means.
The Ministry reiterated Syria’s support for any initiative aimed at enhancing stability and achieving security and development for all peoples of the region, expressing hope that the ceasefire will serve as a constructive step toward ending tensions and opening broader prospects for understanding and cooperation.
Pakistan and Afghanistan earlier announced a halt to military operations between them for Eid al-Fitr, beginning at midnight Wednesday and lasting until midnight next Monday.
