Damascus, March 16 (SANA) Nearly 1,000 orphaned children and their families received an iftar meal on Sunday during the “Solidarity Table” event organized by the Onsur Organization and the Tamayouz Development Foundation, in cooperation with Damascus Governorate’s Local Development Directorate.
The event, held at al-Yasmeen Sports Hall in Damascus, featured recreational, educational, and cultural activities, in addition to distributing gifts to the children.
Omar al-Hamawi, Deputy Director of the Local Development Directorate in Damascus, stated that the governorate has been able to provide iftar meals for 13,000 fasting individuals, in cooperation with civil society organizations.
He added that the targeted groups included park and sanitation engineers, maintenance workers, traffic engineering teams, detainees liberated from Saydnaya Prison, persons with disabilities, local development committees, and other segments of Syrian society.
Hamza Al Abdullah, Executive Director of the Onsur Organization, noted that the aim of the event is to strengthen social solidarity during Ramadan, especially for orphans, who represent one of the organization’s top priorities.
Al Abdullah explained that Onsur was established in 2014, initially focusing its work in northern Syria, and is now expanding across various Syrian governorates. The organization provides integrated educational, training, and economic empowerment programmes for orphaned families to help them achieve self-reliance and become active members of society.
For his part, Ahmad al-Sharif from the Tamayouz Foundation clarified that the foundation implements several programmes supporting orphans, including healthcare, orphan care services, educational support for outstanding students, and psychological assistance through activities aimed at identifying and addressing behavioural challenges.
Throughout Ramadan, Damascus witnesses numerous initiatives aimed at providing iftar meals to fasting individuals through charitable kitchens and communal tables, targeting low-income families, orphans, and workers. These initiatives are organized in cooperation between government bodies, civil society organizations, and charitable associations.
