Damascus, Feb. 28 (SANA) An Interior Ministry source said on Saturday that unidentified gunmen at the Umayyad Square in central Damascus opened fire, affirming that Internal Security Forces immediately began hunting the car and tracking down those in it.
The source denied reports of any assassination attempt targeting Brig. Gen. Abdul Rahman al-Dabbagh, describing the reports as untrue and baseless.
It added that the security personnel quickly secured the area and took measures to protect civilians.
“The information received about hearing the sound of clashes in al- Malki neighborhood of Damascus was related to the ongoing pursuit operation,” the source said, adding that investigations are underway to uncover the circumstances of the incident and the identity of those involved.
