Daraa, Feb. 17 (SANA) A delegation from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) visited the Rural Development Center in Ghusem, southern Syria, on Monday to inspect ongoing restoration work being carried out in partnership with the International Medical Corps.
Discussions focused on displaced people from the provinces of Sweida and Deir Ezzor, particularly their urgent basic needs. The efforts aim to improve living conditions at the center until residents can return to their homes safely and with dignity.
In a statement to SANA, the head of the Ghusem Town Council, Abdul Razzaq Shalash, said the visit provided an opportunity to assess the progress of the restoration work and ensure the needs of displaced people at the center are being met. Rehabilitation efforts included repairing the sewage system, installing windows and doors, and upgrading electrical and plumbing systems to prepare the facility for essential services.
Several displaced residents called for continued aid, stressing the need for hygiene and psychosocial support initiatives to ease their suffering.
