Sweida, Feb. 4 (SANA) The governor of Syria’s Sweida province, Mustafa al-Bakour, said dialogue is the only path forward and warned against attempts to draw the province into confrontation, according to a statement released Tuesday.

Al-Bakour said previous calls to form an inclusive dialogue committee representing all sides had failed to gain sufficient support. He accused unnamed parties of obstructing efforts toward a solution by preventing residents from expressing their views or taking part in dialogue through the use of force.

“Sweida will remain a land of dialogue and reason,” al-Bakour said, adding that residents have a natural right to live in peace and participate in shaping the future of the province.

He said national responsibility requires rejecting any attempt to push Sweida toward conflict and standing united against those who deny people their right to free expression and dialogue.

Al-Bakour said calls for dialogue remain open and that efforts to pursue it will continue despite obstacles, stressing that the future of the province’s children and the dignity of its residents outweigh political differences.
