Aleppo, Jan. 30 (SANA) Syrian army engineering units continue clearing mines and unexploded ordnance left near the Tishrin Dam and the Qarah Qozak Bridge in northern Aleppo countryside, an army commander said Thursday.
Abdul Latif Abdul Latif, commander of the engineering team in the army’s 60th Division, told SANA that the explosives were planted by the SDF elements before their withdrawal from the area, posing a significant threat to civilians and infrastructure.
He added that clearance efforts face major challenges due to the large number of mines scattered across farmland, residential areas, and secondary roads.
“The danger is direct and serious,” Abdul Latif said, warning that many homes and access routes have been rigged with explosive devices.
He urged residents to adhere to safety instructions and to avoid entering homes or agricultural land until operations are completed. He said engineering teams are working at a high pace to secure the area and restore stability, with civilian safety as the top priority.
Mines left behind in previously contested areas have already caused casualties. In November, a 13-year-old boy was killed in an explosion in eastern Aleppo.
