Christians in Damascus celebrate New Year with prayers and masses

Damascus, Jan. 1 (SANA) Christian denominations across Damascus marked the New Year with prayers and masses in churches throughout the city.

On the eve of the New Year, President Ahmad al-Sharaa extended his congratulations to the Syrian people, expressing hope for a bright future for a united, strong, and stable Syria. He encouraged Syrians to work together on reconstruction and development so that prosperity, peace, and harmony prevail across the country.

Across Syria, citizens marked the holiday with celebrations and fireworks, bringing families and communities together to welcome 2026.
