Approximately 300 Syrian refugees returned from Lebanon, through the Jdeidet Yabous border crossing, as part of the organized voluntary return program implemented by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

“This convoy is the second one after years of displacement, within the framework of the voluntary return program organized in coordination between the UNHCR in Syria, UNHCR in Lebanon, the General Authority for Land and Sea Ports in Syria, and the International Organization for Migration in Lebanon,” Vivian Toumeh, Communications Associate at UNHCR Syria, articulated in a statement to SANA.

Toumeh stressed that the program guarantees a safe and dignified return for returnees, while providing basic services and connecting them to the network of community centers spread across Syria, which provide various services including relief aid, psychological, social, and legal support, in addition to cash grants worth up to $600 for the most needy families.

On July 29, Jdeidet Yabous border crossing received the first batch of returnees under the same program, which included 72 refugees from Lebanon to Damascus Countryside and Homs provinces.
