Mills: President Trump to issue executive order lifting sanctions on Syria

Damascus, SANA- U.S. Congressman Cory Mills has affirmed that President Donald Trump wants Syria to be a unified, free, and stable country, and will, within days, issue an executive order lifting a range of sanctions imposed upon it.

In an interview today with Syria TV, Mills said: “Syria has rid itself of a dictatorial regime that ruled it for more than 50 years. It is time for it to have an opportunity, and we want it to be a unified, stable state, and we will not waste much time.”

The Congressman explained that when President Trump signs the executive order, the first thing that will happen is the U.S. Treasury Department will lift sanctions and permit financial transfers and free trade with Syria, noting that repealing the “Caesar Act” requires the legislative committee to gather the necessary votes in Congress.

Mills indicated that his country, along with the countries in the region, will assist the new Syria through bilateral and joint economic agreements to contribute to its reconstruction process.

“We want our relations with Syria to be strategic,” the Congressman said, explaining that lifting U.S. sanctions will aid in reconstruction and prosperity, capacity building, and economic growth.
