Turkey, US stress the importance of increasing cooperation to achieve stability and security in Syria

Washington, SANA-The Joint Turkish-US working group on Syria reaffirmed Turkey and the United States’ commitment to seeing Syria as a stable, sovereign, and peaceful country.

In a joint statement issued following the group’s meeting in Washington, published Tuesday by the U.S. Department of State, it was stated that “Turkey and the United States are committed to increasing cooperation and coordination to achieve stability and security in Syria.”

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau emphasized in a statement following the meeting—jointly chaired with his Turkish counterpart, Nuh Yılmaz that both sides discussed the importance of implementing U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to lift sanctions on Syria. They also stressed the need to maintain Syria’s unity, safety, and stability.

Landau further noted that Turkish-American relations have entered a new phase of partnership and joint cooperation in various fields and issues, aimed at fostering peace and strengthening trade and economic ties.
