Security Council Calls for Ceasefire Commitment in Sweida

11 August، 2025

New York،, SANA-The U.N. Security Council called on all parties to adhere to the ceasefire in Sweida Governorate, ensure the protection of civilians, and respect Syria’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

In a presidential statement reported by the UN News website on Sunday, the Council welcomed the statement issued by the Syrian government condemning acts of violence and announcing measures to investigate and hold those responsible accountable. It urged the government to ensure that investigations are credible, swift, transparent, impartial, and comprehensive in accordance with international standards.

The Council reaffirmed its strong commitment to the sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity of the Syrian Arab Republic, and called on all states to respect these principles.

It also condemned all forms of negative or destructive interference in Syria’s political, security, and economic transition, noting that such interventions undermine efforts to restore stability in the country.

The Security Council called for the implementation of “an inclusive political process led and owned by Syrians.”
