Madrid, April 8 (SANA) Bayern Munich defeated Real Madrid 2–1 in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals on Tuesday, while Arsenal secured a late 1–0 win over Sporting CP in another last-eight clash.
Colombian forward Luis Díaz opened the scoring in the 41st minute before England striker Harry Kane doubled the lead early in the second half in the 46th minute. France’s Kylian Mbappé pulled one back for Real Madrid in the 74th minute.
The return leg is scheduled for next Wednesday in Munich, where Bayern will look to capitalize on home advantage to secure a place in the semifinals.
In another quarterfinal match, England’s Arsenal moved closer to the last four with a 1–0 victory over Portugal’s Sporting CP.
German midfielder Kai Havertz scored the winner in stoppage time (90+1), giving Arsenal an advantage ahead of the second leg at the Emirates Stadium next week.
