Damascus, Aug. 19 (SANA) National Commission for Transitional Justice and the International, Impartial and Independent Mechanism (IIIM) for Syria discussed strengthening cooperation on evidence management and supporting the country’s transitional justice process during talks in Damascus on Wednesday.
Commission Chairman Abdul Basit Abdul Latif met an IIIM delegation headed by Robert Petit at the commission’s headquarters, where the two sides discussed prospects for cooperation, the Commission said on Telegram.
The talks focused on building national capacity to collect, preserve and process evidence, as well as developing information technology tools and techniques for managing evidence and data.
The Commission said the cooperation was aimed at boosting national capabilities in handling evidence and case files to support truth-seeking, accountability and the protection of victims’ rights in accordance with established legal and professional standards.
Since its establishment under Presidential Decree No. 20 of 2025, the National Commission for Transitional Justice has stepped up its engagement at the governmental, community and international levels as part of efforts to promote justice and accountability, establish the truth, provide reparations and prevent the recurrence of violations.
