Damascus, Aug. 3 (SANA) Iraqi Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani said on Monday that Syria, under the leadership of President Ahmad al-Sharaa, is capable of moving toward greater stability, prosperity and “a brighter future for all its people.”

In a post on X following talks with President al-Sharaa in Damascus, Barzani said his visit came at the invitation of the Syrian president and described the current period as “a historic opportunity” for Syria’s recovery, reconstruction and prosperity after years of suffering.

“I expressed my confidence in President al-Sharaa’s vision and my belief that Syria, under his leadership, is capable of achieving greater stability, prosperity and a brighter future for all its people,” Barzani said.

Barzani also reaffirmed his support for “a stable and united Syria, where the rights of all ethnic and religious communities are protected.”

He said the discussions also addressed Syria’s role in promoting peace, security and stability in the region.

Barzani added that Syria, Iraq and the Kurdistan Region share many common interests and said there are significant opportunities to expand economic cooperation for the mutual benefit of all sides.

Earlier on Monday, President al-Sharaa received Barzani and his accompanying delegation at the People’s Palace in Damascus, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani. The two sides discussed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination, particularly in the economic sector, as well as the latest regional developments.
