Capitals, July 3 (SANA) The European Union, Germany, Spain and Belgium have strongly condemned on Friday the bomb attack in Damascus that killed at least 10 people and wounded 21 others, expressing solidarity with the Syrian people and reaffirming their support for the country’s sovereignty and counter-terrorism efforts.
The bombing, which occurred Thursday evening near the Justice Palace in central Damascus, was carried out with an explosive device. Syrian Health Ministry said the death toll had risen to 10, with 21 wounded, including several in critical condition.
EU: Support for Syria in counter-terrorism
EU spokesman Anouar el-Anouni condemned the terrorist attack and reaffirmed the EU’s support for the Syrian government in combating terrorism, according to a post on X.
“The EU will continue engaging with the Syrian Transitional government in the fight against terrorism,” el-Anouni said in a post on X Friday. He expressed condolences to the victims’ families and underlined the EU’s commitment to standing with Syria in this difficult time.
Germany stands in solidarity with Syria
Clemens Hach, Director for the Middle East and North Africa at the German Foreign Ministry, condemned the attack and expressed Germany‘s solidarity with Syria.
“I condemn today’s terrible bomb attack in the center of Damascus. My thoughts and sympathy are with the victims and their families. Germany stands in firm solidarity with Syria on this day of mourning,” Hach said in a post on X.
Spain reaffirms support for Syria’s sovereignty, stability
Spain strongly condemned the attack and affirmed its support for Syria’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity, according to a statement on the Spanish Foreign Ministry’s official website.
The Spanish government condemned any attempt to destabilize Syria and the region, renewing its support for regional and international efforts to enhance security, achieve economic recovery and support institutions aimed at building a prosperous future in Syria, according to the statement.
Spain also expressed its solidarity and wishes for a speedy recovery to all the wounded and extended its condolences to the victims’ families.
Belgium calls for perpetrators to be held accountable
Belgium‘s embassy in Syria and Lebanon condemned the bombing and called for the perpetrators to be held accountable, according to a post on X.
“We condemn the bomb attack yesterday in Damascus near the Palace of Justice which resulted in fatalities and injuries. The perpetrators should be brought to justice. Our thoughts are with the families of the victims and those affected by this tragic attack,” the embassy said in a post on X Friday, extending its condolences to the families of the victims and all those affected by the attack.
The bombing targeted a café in al-Hijaz area, al-Nasr Street near the Palace of Justice in Damascus. Syria’s Internal Security Forces have launched an investigation into the attack, which has drawn widespread condemnation from Arab and international countries, with many expressing solidarity with Syria.
