Capitals, June 1 (SANA) Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan have condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli settlers under the protection of Israeli forces, warning that continued violations at the holy site could further escalate tensions in occupied Jerusalem and the wider region.
The Arab reactions came after settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied Jerusalem on Sunday and raised Israeli flags inside the site under police protection.
Qatar described the incident as a violation of international law and a provocation to Muslims worldwide, warning against attempts to alter the historical and legal status of Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Doha called on the international community to take action to halt the repeated violations and reaffirmed its support for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The United Arab Emirates also condemned the incident, describing it as an unacceptable provocation and calling for respect for the historical status quo at Jerusalem’s holy sites. The UAE urged Israeli authorities to take responsibility for preventing further escalation and protecting religious sites.
Jordan, the custodian of Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, condemned the storming on Sunday as a provocative and reckless act, according to the Petra news agency. Amman reiterated its rejection of any measures aimed at altering the legal and historical status of the site.
Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s third-holiest site, is administered by Jordan’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, which holds authority over its management and access arrangements.
Jordan has repeatedly warned against efforts to impose temporal or spatial divisions at the site, which has witnessed repeated incursions by Israeli settlers since Israel occupied East Jerusalem in 1967.
The latest incident comes amid heightened tensions surrounding Jerusalem’s holy sites and renewed regional calls for international action to prevent further escalation.
