Doha, May 2 (SANA) Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani held a phone call on Saturday with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during which they discussed ongoing U.S.–Iran negotiations and recent diplomatic developments, according to the Qatar News Agency (QNA).
Araghchi initiated the call and briefed the Qatari prime minister on the current status of talks and related diplomatic activity.
The Prime Minister reiterated Qatar’s support for mediation efforts aimed at resolving regional disputes through peaceful means, stressing the importance of constructive engagement by all parties to advance negotiations and prevent further escalation, according to QNA.
He also emphasized that freedom of navigation is a “fundamental principle” that must not be compromised, warning that any move to close the Strait of Hormuz or use it as leverage would deepen tensions and threaten regional stability.
Such actions, he added, could have serious consequences for global energy and food supplies, as well as for market stability and international supply chains.
The Qatari premier also called for adherence to international law and the UN Charter, urging prioritization of regional stability and de-escalation efforts.
