Syrian Government: SDF organization statement on Aleppo incidents false, baseless

Damascus, Jan.7 (SANA) The Syrian Government affirmed that the statement released by SDF organization regarding the situation in Aleppo—particularly in Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods—includes fundamental inaccuracies and descriptions that do not reflect the reality on the ground, and contradicts the April 1st, 2025 agreement.

“SDF organization’s claims of having no military presence inside Aleppo city is an explicit admission that fully exempts it from any role or involvement in the city’s security and military affairs.  This confirms that the exclusive responsibility for maintaining security and protecting residents falls upon the Syrian State and its legitimate institutions, in accordance with the constitution and applicable laws,” the Syrian government said in a statement Wednesday in comments on the recent incidents in Aleppo north city.

The Syrian state stresses that the protection of all citizens—including the Kurds—is a firm national and legal responsibility that cannot be compromised or negotiated, this responsibility is exercised without discrimination, based on ethnicity or affiliation, and the State categorically rejects any attempts to portray security measures as targeting a specific community, the statement affirmed.

“The authorities concerned stress that those displaced from areas of tension are exclusively civilians, all of them Kurdish citizens who left their neighborhoods out of fear of escalation. They sought refuge in areas under the control of the State and its official institutions, which clearly demonstrates the trust of Kurdish citizens in the Syrian state and its ability to provide them with protection and security, and refutes claims alleging that they face threats or targeted actions,” the statement added.

In this regard, the State underscores that the measures taken around Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods are solely aimed at preserving security, preventing any armed activity within residential areas, and stopping their use as pressure card against Aleppo city. These measures are carried out with full commitment to protecting civilians, ensuring their safety and safeguarding their property.

The Syrian Government calles  for the withdrawal of armed groups from inside Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods, rejects provocative rhetoric and exaggeration that could fuel tension and destabilize the situation, the statement concluded.
