Korea announces $38 million in humanitarian aid to support Syria

Korea announces $38 million in humanitarian aid to support Syria

The Republic of Korea announced a new $38 million humanitarian aid package for Syria on Tuesday. The initiative was unveiled during an official ceremony at the Royal Semiramis Hotel in Damascus.

The aid projects will be implemented in partnership with four United Nations agencies to support children and families in Syria.

Under the initiative, UNICEF will receive $15 million, the UN Development Programme (UNDP) $10 million, the World Food Programme (WFP) $10 million, and the World Health Organization (WHO) $3 million.

Speaking to SANA, Gyusuk Geon, the Korean Ambassador to Lebanon, said that his government has expressed its desire to provide humanitarian aid to Syria through various UN agencies, adding that this initiative is part of efforts to build mutual trust and bilateral cooperation between the two countries

“Koria is looking forwards to deepen areas of cooperation with Syria,” the Ambassador said.

He reiterated Korea’s readiness, as a friendly country to Syria to provide support in the most urgent areas, enabling Syria to move forward on the path to prosperity.
