Syria calls on the OIC to reject Israeli attempts to legitimize occupation

Jeddah, SANA- Syria stressed Monday that the Israeli occupation is violating the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement and UN resolutions, by establishing intelligence centers and military posts within Syrian territory targeting the country’s unity.

In his speech at the emergency ministerial meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Asaad Al-Shaibani called on the Organization to reject any attempt by Israel to legitimize the occupation.

The minister said at the emergency meeting over the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, “Damascus has never bowed down and has remained loyal to the causes of the nation, from Palestine to every battle to defend the right”.

“Despite a 14- years devastating war, Syria is rising from the ashes, more aware and more determined to uphold its sovereignty and independence.”  He added.

Al-Shaibani explained that Gaza is today under siege, before the silence of the human conscience, while Israel continues its crimes in violation of international law and the UN Charter.

“Syria condemns this criminal Israeli war morally, humanely, religiously, and historically, and does not accept the labeling of the aggressor as a “party to a conflict”, It is an occupation and aggression that must end” the foreign minister added.

He reiterated Syria’s call for a “unified, honest, and bold Arab and Islamic position to confront the destructive war and lift the siege on the Gaza Strip.”

On the Syrian issue, Al-Shaibani detailed the Israeli occupation violations the 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement, Security Council resolutions, and the principles of respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, referring to Israeli occupation establishing of intelligence centers and military posts within prohibited areas, in service of its expansionist and divisive project.

Al-Shaibani pointed out that these violations aim to “sabotage the Syrian national fabric, incite sectarian strife, and transform the occupied Syrian Golan Heights into a base for taking more land”, stressing that Syria will remain resistant to partition.

Al-Shaibani reiterated Syria’s demand that the United Nations and the UNDOF mission assume their full responsibilities in documenting and ending Israeli incursions and violations.

He called on Syria’s brothers in the OIC to support its position in international forums and reject any attempt to legitimize the occupation.
