Cairo, July 18 (SANA) Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy and U.S. President’s Senior Advisor for Arab and African Affairs Massad Boulos discussed developments in Libya and Sudan on Saturday, stressing the importance of advancing the political process in Libya and supporting efforts to end the conflict in Sudan.
According to an Arab League statement, the two officials emphasized continued coordination to promote security and stability in the region.
On Libya, Fahmy reaffirmed the Arab League’s support for a Libyan-led and Libyan-owned political process aimed at unifying state institutions and holding presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.
He also reiterated the League’s commitment to Libya’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and rejection of foreign interventions.
On Sudan, Fahmy reiterated the League’s call for an immediate ceasefire, renewed dialogue and the protection of Sudan’s unity and national institutions. He also stressed the need to ensure the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian assistance and the protection of civilians.
According to the statement, Boulos presented the U.S. assessment of developments in Libya and Sudan and the proposals for addressing both crises. He also praised the Arab League’s role in supporting political solutions and regional de-escalation efforts.
The meeting came as the United Nations continued to warn of worsening humanitarian conditions in Sudan and international efforts to revive Libya’s stalled political process.
