Syria, Bahrain move toward developing mutual partnership in various transport sectors

Damascus, SANA- Transport Minister, Dr. Yarub Badr, met with Bahrain’s Ambassador to Damascus, Waheed Mubarak Sayyar, to discuss prospects for enhancing bilateral cooperation in various transport sectors.

During the meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters in Damascus, both officials emphasized the importance of promoting sustainable transport and digital transformation in line with global advancements in the field. They also discussed the development of a modern land transport network between the two countries through the exchange of expertise and implementation of smart solutions to improve efficiency and services.

In this regard, Minister Badr proposed the formation of a joint technical committee on land transport to assess transport issues, oversee the implementation of joint projects, address logistical and technical challenges, and recommend suitable solutions to enhance integration in this vital sector.

Both sides stressed the importance of facilitating technical visits among experts, activating existing agreements, and exploring the possibility of signing new memorandums of understanding (MoUs) to align with current developments and meet future aspirations.

They further noted that with the latest advances in sustainable transport and digital transformation, updating existing agreements or signing new MoUs would help address emerging challenges and opportunities—such as upgrading digital infrastructure and implementing smart transport solutions in the land transport sector.

Minister Badr affirmed the strong fraternal ties between Syria and Bahrain, commending Bahrain’s supportive stance toward Syria. He also reiterated the Syrian Transport Ministry’s readiness to provide all necessary facilities to advance cooperation, particularly in land, air, and maritime transport.

For his part, Ambassador Sayyar expressed Bahrain’s keen interest in expanding areas of cooperation with Syria. He highlighted the importance of developing transport infrastructure to enhance economic and trade connections between the two brotherly nations.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister Mohammed Rahhal and Director of the Minister’s Office, Abdul Aziz Mustafa.
