Islamabad, July 9 (SANA) Pakistan on Thursday called on the United States and Iran to exercise restraint and resolve their differences through dialogue and diplomacy following renewed military escalation between the two countries.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the renewed conflict serves no one’s interests and urged both sides to avoid actions that could undermine regional peace and stability.
The ministry called on Washington and Tehran to honor their commitments under the memorandum of understanding signed last month, describing the agreement as an important framework for promoting mutual understanding, respect and regional stability.
It said dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to resolving the crisis and reaffirmed Pakistan’s readiness to support efforts aimed at preserving regional peace and stability.
The United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding on June 18 covering several outstanding issues, including maintaining a ceasefire and ensuring the security of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The agreement has since come under strain following Iranian attacks on commercial vessels in the strategic waterway and subsequent U.S. strikes on Iranian targets. On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the memorandum of understanding had come to an end.
