Bern, June 16 (SANA) The Swiss Foreign Ministry announced Tuesday that the signing ceremony for the memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran will be held on Friday at the Bürgenstock resort in central Switzerland, citing the venue’s difficult accessibility and high security requirements, according to AFP.
The ministry said the signing ceremony will take place at a luxury hotel on Mount Bürgenstock overlooking Lake Lucerne, adding that the location was chosen on the recommendation of Pakistani and Qatari mediators and with the approval of both the United States and Iran, AFP reported.
The ministry said it could not provide further information at this time regarding the details of the ceremony or the signing program.
The Bürgenstock hotel complex is located in the canton of Nidwalden in central Switzerland and is a venue for high-level international events, having hosted an international peace conference on Ukraine in June 2024, attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
MoU signed electronically by Trump, Vance and Ghalibaf
A senior US official said the memorandum of understanding was signed electronically by President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Sunday .
According to Tehran, Vance and Ghalibaf will lead their respective countries’ delegations during the signing ceremony in Switzerland, the official said, cited by AFP. Vance will lead the US delegation for the in-person signing, with senior Trump aides Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner also in attendance, according to a senior US official cited by multiple news agencies .
Trump, speaking to reporters in France, where he is attending the G7 summit in Évian-les-Bains, said Vance would represent Washington at the signing ceremony and indicated he may not attend himself, according to AFP and Reuters .
The text of the memorandum of understanding is expected to be released after the formal signing ceremony, Trump said, according to AFP .
