Cairo, June 14 (SANA) Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed regional developments and the ongoing U.S.-Iran negotiations during a phone call on Saturday with U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff.
According to Egypt’s Al-Ahram Gate news, the conversation focused on developments in diplomatic contacts aimed at reaching an agreement between Washington and Tehran that could help reduce tensions, end the current confrontation and open a new phase of security and stability in the region.
Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for efforts to reach such an agreement and stressed Cairo’s commitment to working with regional partners to facilitate a final deal. He emphasized the importance of seizing the current opportunity to end the conflict and reinforce stability.
For his part, Witkoff highlighted the intensive efforts made by regional parties, including Egypt, to help advance negotiations. He expressed hope that a prospective agreement would contribute to strengthening security and stability across the Middle East.
The phone call came a day after Abdelatty held separate discussions with Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on developments in the U.S.-Iran negotiations and efforts to reach an agreement between the two sides.
Earlier on Saturday, U.S. President Donald Trump said an agreement formally ending the standoff with Iran could be signed on Sunday. He described the anticipated deal as a safeguard that would prevent Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon and support regional stability.
