Beirut, June 11 (SANA) Lebanese President, Joseph Aoun, said on Thursday that Lebanon will not withdraw from ongoing negotiations with Israel despite mounting pressure, stressing that the talks will continue in pursuit of outcomes that serve the country’s interests.
According to Lebanon’s National News Agency, Aoun said: “Despite the pressure to withdraw from the negotiations, we will not do so. We will continue on this path until we reach conclusions that serve our nation.”
He described negotiations as the only available option in the face of war and destruction, emphasizing that the state remains the guarantor of national unity, sovereignty and the protection of all Lebanese citizens.
Aoun said the negotiations do not violate Lebanon’s constitution and are aimed at safeguarding the country’s interests and the future of its people. He urged critics to wait for the outcome of the talks before passing judgment.
The Lebanese president stated on June 6 that negotiations with Israel represent the safest path for protecting Lebanon and its national interests, arguing that dialogue does not mount to surrender or concession but is the least costly way to end wars and avoid further human and economic losses.
Lebanon and Israel held three rounds of talks in Washington in April and May as part of a U.S.-mediated negotiation process.
