Damascus, June 9 (SANA) UN Secretary-General António Guterres has said that open dialogue among nations, cultures and religions is essential for overcoming global divisions and advancing toward a more just and peaceful world.
In a message marking the International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations, received by SANA on Tuesday, Guterres warned that conflicts and rising inequalities continue to increase worldwide, while rapid technological developments, from artificial intelligence to clean energy, are presenting “critical choices” for the future.
He added that misunderstandings and the manipulation of differences can undermine global solidarity, stressing that dialogue between nations and cultures remains the path forward to address shared challenges.
Guterres also highlighted the role of the UN Alliance of Civilizations, saying the initiative helps build bridges and transform cultural diversity into a source of strength. He noted that meaningful change begins with “open minds and open hearts”.
The International Day for Dialogue Among Civilizations, observed annually on June 10, aims to promote awareness of cultural diversity, strengthen a culture of dialogue, and reinforce mutual respect and global solidarity to support a more interconnected and harmonious world.
