NEW YORK, May.26 (SANA) 50 countries at the United Nations condemned Russian warnings of possible military escalation against Ukraine and calls for foreign diplomats to leave Kyiv, Ukrainian officials said Tuesday.
Ukraine’s representative Andrii Melnyk said about 50 countries rejected any threats against diplomatic missions, stressing the importance of international protections for embassies and personnel.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres told the Security Council he was closely monitoring Russia’s statements about potential strikes on defence and decision-making sites in Kyiv and urged restraint.
Germany expressed concern over the situation, saying the warnings could increase tensions and that it had summoned Russia’s ambassador.
Russia had earlier urged foreign nationals, including diplomats, to leave Kyiv, citing possible escalation risks.
Russian officials also said they had raised the issue with the United States, including calls regarding the US embassy in Kyiv.
Russian forces launched a large-scale missile and drone attack on Kyiv earlier this week, Ukrainian officials said.
