Athens, May 18 (SANA) Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jassim Al-Budaiwi stressed the importance of enhancing regional and international cooperation and exchanging expertise to reinforce security and stability in the region and worldwide.
According to a post published on the GCC’s official website on Sunday, Al-Budaiwi made the remarks during his participation in the first European-Gulf Geopolitical and Investment Summit held in Greece with the participation of Gulf and European officials, alongside senior international representatives.
Al-Budaiwi highlighted the importance of protecting maritime navigation, supply chains and the stability of global energy markets, noting that the repercussions of the war in the region have extended to energy security, infrastructure and maritime navigation.
He stressed that Gulf security is not only a regional matter, but a shared international interest.
Addressing regional and global security challenges, Al-Budaiwi said confronting such threats requires broader international cooperation, strategic partnerships and the exchange of expertise and information, while emphasizing respect for international law and state sovereignty, as well as the responsible use of modern technology and artificial intelligence.
He added that GCC countries have consistently stressed the importance of dialogue and diplomacy to preserve security and stability, protect maritime routes and supply chains, and maintain stability in global energy markets through a comprehensive approach based on de-escalation and regional and international dialogue.
Al-Budaiwi noted that Gulf countries have expanded their role beyond being energy suppliers to becoming global partners in investment, infrastructure, renewable energy and advanced technologies.
The first European-Gulf Geopolitical and Investment Summit began in Athens on May 14 and concludes Sunday. The summit aims to expand cooperation between GCC countries and the European Union across political, economic, investment and development sectors.
