Algiers, May 3 (SANA) Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune said Saturday his country is ready to contribute to efforts to resolve the crisis in Mali, while reaffirming Algeria’s longstanding opposition to interference in the internal affairs of other states.
Speaking during a regular meeting with national media, Tebboune said “the path of wisdom in Mali lies in adopting dialogue with the people,” according to the Algerian News Agency, expressing regret over the deterioration of the situation and resulting instability.
He said Algeria’s position is guided by its close historical ties with Mali, adding that Algiers would stand by the Malian people and provide support if requested, in line with a policy it has followed since 1962.
Tebboune reiterated that military solutions are not a viable way out of the crisis, saying Malians are capable of overcoming current challenges through dialogue.
He added that Algeria is prepared to offer assistance aimed at de-escalation and helping resolve the crisis, provided such support is requested by Mali and serves the interests of its people.
His remarks come amid recent developments in Mali, where military leader Assimi Goita said on April 29 that the armed forces had taken control of the entire country following a series of attacks on strategic sites that, according to the government, killed the defense minister and 23 military and civilian personnel.
